Advocacy

DWI is committed to ensuring that the voices of disabled women, girls and non binary people in Ireland are heard on all issues which affect them. It is important for us, as a cross disability organisation, that our members' experiences of intersecting identities influence updates to law and policy. To achieve this we have a policy and advocacy working group, consult with our members on open submissions and write submissions/reports on issues which affect our members.

If you are interested in joining our Policy and Advocacy Working Group you can email: DWI.Policy.Advocacy@gmail.com

We also regularly raise awareness of issues which affect our members on social media, in newspaper articles and by speaking at various events. You can see some recent examples of this on our News Page.

Ongoing Submissions

Currently we are working on a number of submissions relating to areas which affect disabled women, girls and non binary people. If you are interested in contributing to any of these submissions, please email DWI.Policy.Advocacy@gmail.com. These are:

  1. Submission on the Review of the EPSEN Act:

The EPSEN (Education of Persons with Special Educational Needs) Act 2004 is being reviewed this year. Currently we are working on a submission to the Government in relation to this Act and will be organising a consultation with our members for the third week in February. We will also host a survey with the consultation questions for those who prefer this format.

    More information to follow.
